Hikaru Utada :: First Love

Review
First Love was my first CD into the world of J Pop and it's also Utada Hikaru's first album. I had first heard some of this CD in my high school Japanese class, so later when I decided to get into Japanese music I remember hearing a couple songs I liked from this album so I decided to pick it up. First Love is a beautiful ballad and is easily the best song on here. The more upbeat song Movin' on without you is good too, and these are really the only stand out songs on this CD. And while the other songs are certainly not bad, they tend to hover between average and good. This is the main problem, making this album come off as rather average. The songs are still worth listening to, just nothing really memorable. In the end this is a decent album to pick up, but there is definitely better stuff out there.

Overall:
Ryan Frost, 2004
