Mai Kuraki :: First Cut

Review
First Cut is Mai Kuraki's first music video collection. It contains five music videos (or six, if you count Baby I Like) and some extra material. Overall, this is a decent collection of music videos, but I hope her next one is a little more exciting and original.

Love, Day After Tomorrow This is an enjoyable music video. It's presented entirely in black and white, but Mai looks stunning nonetheless. The visual effects and lack of color give it a nice style too.

Stay by my side It takes place in a church and has Mai sitting down and singing for most of it. There's not much going on in this video, so it's not all that exciting, but Mai has a beautiful face which kept my attention. An average video. There is also an alternate version included, titled "Dream on ver." which shows Mai singing the entire time without cutting away.

Secret of My Heart A pretty simple music video, as it just has Mai singing to a microphone on stage to an empty audience, but it does look kind of nice thanks to a nice use of colors and Mai herself.

Never Gonna Give You Up Much of this video is also presented in black and white, but I also found this one well worth watching. The video takes place in the studio, as if Mai is recording and presents some of the recording equipment in an appealing way.

Simply Wonderful This one has Mai singing in a bar (or similar locale). It's just a mediocre video, not much else to say.

Baby I Like This isn't really what I would call a music video. It just shows some grainy behind-the-scenes footage with Mai and some of the music producers, and then proceeds to show the end credits while still playing the song.

On to the extra material. I'm not exactly sure what "delicious way ~select songs" is. During this segment, a few songs are played while showing some images of Mai (they're certainly not music videos, as they're very short). My best guess is that they were commercials, or that's what they seem like. The Discography section just shows the cover art of her CDs released up until her first album. There are also a couple of brief "making of" videos included.

Overall:
